The 591B Densimeter with the Chicken Mobility calibration is designed to quickly and accurately analyze the mobility of a sample. Mobility is a measurement of the net movement of sperm cells through a resistance medium. The 591B
Densimeter will estimate sperm concentration and automatically perform all calculations required to analyze the mobility of a sample. The Poultry Mobility Assay was developed by Oregon State University to identify highly
fertile males. Scientific research has proven a direct correlation between the mobility of the semen and the fertility of the fowl.
Mobility is measured by overlaying a microliter volume of buffered semen on top of an
Accudenz® solution, incubating the sample for five minutes, and then measuring the test cuvette using the Densimeter. The Densimeter displays the Mobility Index score, which can be used to categorize each individual male.
Such categorization is meaningful because sperm mobility is a primary determinant of fertility in poultry. The sperm mobility assay has an advantage over conventional semen evaluation tests because this assay can identify both
inferior and superior sires.
The Chicken Sperm Counter kit includes the 591B Densimeter, chicken sperm concentration calibration, and all equipment and supplies for the first 100 tests.
Additional semen processes
and additional tests for the 591B Densimeter are available and upgrades are easily implemented.
